Gawai Dayak is a festival celebrated every years on the first day of June. It is a religious and social occasion. Dayak visits their friends and relatives on this day.
The mode of celebration is defferent from one place to another. Everyone must clean and prepare anything such as food and cakes before the start of gawai dayak.
The start of the is on evening 31st May. In most of longhouse, the celebration start with Muai Antu Rua ceremony in purpose casting away the spirit off greed, signifying the non interference of badluck spirit in the celebration.
Around 6 p.m.when the sun sets, people join the miring ceremony, an offering to hope for giudance , blessings, and longlife to their god.
When midnight comes, the gong is beafen to callthe attention of all celebrants. The chief of the longhouse leads the people to clrinkAi Pangayu, and wishes each other for their longlife, health, and blessing.
The celebration of Gawai Dayak hould cast for several days, followed by many activities a few days later, including ngajat and cock-fighting competation.
